Personality Profile:
Lowell is a very closed individual.  After his concentration camp experiences, he does not open up to anyone readily.  He rarely socializes, while at the same time is aware that a great deal of business is accomplished in the ship's lounge.  He will avoid  situations where he does not have at least one escape route.  He will not willingly surrender in battle again, and any such surrender will be only to buy time to escape.  The same characteristic applies to any Engineering problems he faces; the problem will be solved whether by conventional means or
by whatever jury-rig Lowell has to accomplish.

Lowell has little respect for rank, believing that respect must be earned by the individual no matter how many pips may be on the collar.  He does not suffer fools or stupidity silently. Lowell has little regard for those Officers who put their careers ahead of the welfare of their crew.  Lowell's first loyalty is to his ship and fellow crew members, even if at times he does not really identify and bond with them.  The only one Lowell depends upon
is himself.  His parents failed to protect him from the Borg and subconsciously he feels alone in the universe.

Lowell is still troubled by nightmares of his childhood and to a lesser extent his concentration camp days.

Biography:
As a twelve-year-old child Craig Lowell was discovered by a Star Fleet rescue party on Miranda IV.  Miranda IV was a colony world in the Alpha Quadrant at the limits of Federation exploration.  A stable genetic base of fifteen thousand individuals initially settled Miranda IV five years before.  When the colony had missed two reporting periods, a Starship was dispatched. The USS MONTGOMERY discovered the planet had been attacked by the Borg two years before.  Craig was discovered living among the ruins.  He had suppressed
all memories of the attack and its aftermath.  He had been subsisting on the colony's emergency rations and what
plants and animals he could find.  Much of the time he had passed in  the colony's library and educational center.  When Craig was discovered he had managed to almost complete the repairs on the single warp-shuttle that the Borg had not completely destroyed.

Lowell spent the next four years living in various foster homes on Earth.  Due to the contracts signed by the colonist, Lowell was the sole inheritor of their estates. However, it took almost ten years for the case to wind its way through the Federation justice system.   By then Lowell was already in Star Fleet for six years.

At age sixteen Lowell ran away from his latest foster home.  Forging his guardian's signature and lying about his age he enlisted in Star Fleet.  After completing initial schooling he was assigned to the Engineering Branch.  Lowell's natural ability, as evidenced by his repair of the Miranda IV shuttle craft at age 12, was further enhanced by schooling and his quick intellect.

Over the next ten years, Lowell held every Engineering position on a starship and advanced to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.

Six years ago, Lowell was assigned to the USS ADAIR patrolling the Romulan-Federation border.  The ADAIR failed to return from her patrol.  Last communications with the vessel were routine and gave no hint of any problem.  Subsequent searches failed to turn up any clues.  Two years ago, a Romulan Bird-of-Prey appeared at Deep Space 14.  It was severely damaged.  On board were Lowell and sixteen other crew members of the ADAIR.  The ADAIR had been engaged in battle by a Romulan task group and captured before any messages could be sent.  The surviving crew had spent the next four years in various Romulan Concentration Camps.  All
senior officers were killed after the Romulans had obtained whatever information they could. The remainder of the crew were worked to death over the years.   Lowell and his group of sixteen had escaped from their camp and after killing the camp administration had stolen the Romulan War Bird.  Despite pursuit they had managed to make their way to Deep Space 14.

A year of debriefing followed.  Most of those who returned choose not to return to Star Fleet service.  Lowell accepted Star Fleet's offer of Officer Training.  He wasn't through with the Romulans, or the Borg, just yet.

Lowell graduated first in his class of 153 with a perfect score from all subjects.

Lowell was assigned to the USS SATURN as assistant Chief Engineering Officer.
